The Sultanate of the Stars
An interstellar polity idea.
So I think we kind of have an idea of how this world works. For this post, I want to put up something more concrete. Here’s an interstellar polity I’ve thought up. Again, this is not final. But maybe this could set the tone for how space in Bima Sakti should be.

Capital: Kutaraja, New Aceh
Population: 500 Million (spread across 100+ Star Systems)
Religion: Islam (Official)
Government: Monarchy
Head of State: Sultan Iskandar Syah
Description
Also known as the Sultanate of the Stars, the New Aceh Sultanate is a prominent interstellar polity in Bima Sakti. Their capital, New Aceh, is located at a confluence of hyperspace currents, turning it into a center of interstellar trade.
Because of their wealth, the Sultanate is one of the most powerful polities in Bima Sakti. For over a century, the Sultans of New Aceh have expanded their domain under the protection of the Indonesian Space Command.
The Sultanate’s relationship with the Central Government on Earth is complicated. The Sultanate pays fealty to Bima Sakti and relies on the Central Government in Jakarta for their protection. On the other hand, they also seek to be free from the Space Command interfering and getting into their coffers.
Another complication is the Sultanate’s strong Islamist stance which ran counter to Indonesia’s official stance of Pancasila which allowed freedom of monotheistic religions. A modus vivendi existed in which Sharia Law is practiced in New Aceh and the territories of the Sultanate with few exceptions.
Meanwhile, the Space Command ensured that the more trigger-happy members of the Sultanate wouldn’t be carrying out jihads against their fellow Indonesians. Alien kingdoms, on other hand…
